    Floyd E. Dominy is Commissioner, U.S. Bureau of Reclamation. He writes about a dam and a lake together producing water for both fun and use. As commissioner of the Bureau of Reclamation, I was responsible for building Glen Canyon Dam and the subsequent formation of Lake Powell.

    Located at the upper end of Lake Powell, Hite serves he area s an important recreation spot as well as the highway link from northern Utah heading into San Juan county. Hite Ferry has been operated for years as pat of Utah Highway 95, where it crosses the Colorado River.

    The Blanding Explorer Scouts place a visitors register for those coming in by Jeep or boat. One of the dugways in Slick Rock Hill that the Mormon pioneers cut and blasted out so that their covered wagons could get through the rough country.
