    The construction of Glen Canyon Dam began in 1956, but actually Glen Canyon was considered even before Hoover Dam was built. Officials of the U. s. Geological Survey and the Southern California Edison company began investigative drilling operations on a potential dam site in glen Canyon in 1921 -- ten years before Hoover Dam was started.

  • U. S. 89 alt., Navajo Bridge, Vermillion Cliffs
    Vermillion Cliffs along U.S. Highway 89 alt. This monument stands on the north side of the Navajo Bridge as a tribute to a great and fearless pioneer, John Doyle Lee, after which lee's Ferry is named. The Navajo Bridge over the Colorado River, along the Vermillion Cliffs route 89 alt. This bridge is now the 2nd highest steel arch bridge in the world (The Glen Canyon Bridge is the highest).

    During the spring of 1963, thirty thousand pounds of catch able trout were planted below the Glen Canyon Dam. The main place for catching this food-for-the-frying-pan will be at Lee's Ferry, a five mile drive from Marble Canyon.

  • Rainbow Bridge, You have to see it to appreciate it - by K. C. Den Dooven - The entire Lake Powell area is a land and water combination of scenic beauty. Although there are many parts worth exploring, the Rainbow Bridge is and always will be the focal point of this land. It can be described, measured, photographed and talked about but take it from one who was there . . . it has to be seen to be appreciated.
