Dinosaur National Monument
..... John Wesley Powell called this "Echo Park" in 1869
during his first scientific expedition into the Colorado Plateau.
Rivers have played a lead role in producing the story of the Monument.
Preserved in the sand of an ancient river, and now exposed at Dinosaur
Quarry, are the bones of such giants as Brontosaurus and Allosaurus, relices
of the Age of Reptiles. Providing a spectacular setting are the canyons
carved by a great river, the Green. One river finished its work; the other
is still active.
This is home and critical habitat for the endangered peregrine falcon,
bald eagle, Colorado pikeminnow, and razorback sucker.
There is Indian rock art in to be seen
